Ever hear about taking creatine for weight loss? You probably won’t find many articles addressing this, because the answer to this question is trickier than it first appears. How Creatine Works
I’ll try to explain what creatine does without getting bogged down in the technicalities. I could throw around a bunch of scientific terms, but most likely this will just cause you to “zone out”. So here it is in its most basic form. When you take creatine it makes the muscles bigger by increasing the fluid within each individual muscle cell. The scientific term for this is sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. If you take creatine every day for 4 – 6 weeks, you can expect an average muscle growth of 5 – 10 pounds.
So How Can You Lower Your Body Fat Percentage With Creatine?
Body fat percentage is calculated by taking the amount of fat on your body in relation to how much you weigh. Because of this, you can decrease the percentage of body fat you have by either getting more lean muscles or losing body fat. So you can drop 1-2% body fat percentage right before a vacation or special event if done properly.
The Proper Way to Use Creatine to Improve Your Look on Vacation
If you’ve been planning a great vacation or attending a gala event, I would wait until 3 – 4 weeks before hand to start using creatine. Too many people think of creatine as a way to keep muscle mass during the winter, but that’s not the most productive method for preparing for your summer vacation. Instead, in the months leading up to your vacation, you should drop your weight with a diet, but still try to keep your same muscle mass. Use exercise and what you eat to drop as much weight as you can. When you’ve gotten yourself as lean as you can go, that’s when you want to take advantage of the creatine. About 3 or 4 weeks before your special occasion, start using 5 grams of creatine twice a day. Don’t give up that diet just because you’re on the creatine. You will quickly add 5-15 pounds of volume to your muscle, making any body fat you do have look much less significant in comparison.
This Method of Using Creatine Also Makes Your Skin Shrink
Using creatine a few weeks prior to your special event will also cause your skin to shrink around the stomach muscles. If you have skin that is not tight, your abs will not look well-defined. If you use creatine just prior to your special occasion, you will see that skin tighten up and fill in any voids. So while creatine for weight loss may not be a reality, it will look as if you have lost weight.
